Clinical Application of Zhang Zhongjing Core Herbs: Part 1

$300.00

Synopsis:

This is the first part of 3 part series course. This 3 part series will teach the patterns of 60 core herbs used in Zhang Zhongjing’s Shanghan Zabing Lun and their clinical application. These herbs are strategically allocated into 10 groups based on deep analysis of Zhang Zhongjing formulas and texts and years of clinical trials and teaching experience. These 10 groups depict herbs used inherently related formulas and patho-physiology. Therefore, this series teaches not only herbs patterns but also formulas in relation to these herbs and reinforces understanding of pathophysiology of the Shanghan Zabing Lun.

Part 1:

The first part of series introduces the background and foundation of the premises on which this approach emerged. The course will also introduce the reason and rationale behind the grouping of 60 core herbs into the 10. Then, the course will focus on 12 primary “clue” herbs. Patterns of these herbs often serve as the most helpful “clue” to the understanding of persons and their physio-pathology, hence to the selection of effective formulas. Students will learn each herb in terms of its main ability, mainly treating pattern, inclusively treating patterns, constitutionals traits, palpable patterns including abdominal findings, and important formulas containing the herb and their patterns in relation to the herb pattern.

Part 2:

The second part of series reinforces what students learned from the part 1 and focuses on the 13 secondary “clue” herbs. These herbs serve as a helpful “clue” to the formula selection in that some have unique abdominal patterns, and others have specific and clear clinical presentations in determining the some of the most commonly used formulas in modern day clinic.

Part 3:

This class will reinforce the learning of previous two parts and teach through the remainder of herbs from group 1 to 10. In this process, the goal is to help students remember the majority of most commonly used Zhang Zhongjing formulas and their clinical application by simply knowing the herbs in the group.

Part 1

Learning Objective:

  • Recognize ancient empirical method of herbal practice

  • Be able to see Zhang Zhongjing’s text from the lens of Zhang Zhongjing’s text

  • Understand concept of single herb’s main ability, mainly treating pattern, and inclusively treating pattern.

  • Learn how subtle and prolonged pattern manifests as constitutional traits in persons and how to use them in clinic

  • Learn patterns of 12 primary clue herbs that help practitioners understand constitutional characteristics and traits and guide then to arrive at appropriate formulas in clinic

Format: Online zoom
