Classical Literary Chinese and Texts, Phase 2
Learning Classical Literary Chinese (漢文 Han Wen) through Confucian classics
Last year we embarked our journey of studying literary Chinese and classical texts by exploring Chinese characters (漢字 Han Zi) through 214 radicals as the first step towards proficiency in classical Chinese literature. This year we will continue our journey and study basic grammar and syntactic structure of literary Chinese using two Confucian classics, Great Learning (大學 Da Xue) and Doctrine of Means (中庸 Zhong Yong), as main texts, and supplementary excerpts of various other texts.
Instructor: Joon Hee Lee
Joon Hee learned that in order to seek truth it is important to trace back to the origin of any given knowledge. In his early career, he went long extra miles to study earlier pre-Han texts and writing systems. This course is to share what he learned through his journey.
